“We need more such dedicated field stations that work on research and conservation”

Sri B.K. Singh, PCCF, Karnataka Forest Department

“Volunteering at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station was an unforgettable and enriching experience! Nestled in the heart of one of India’s most vibrant evergreen forests, the research station offered a unique opportunity to engage deeply with conservation efforts while immersing in a lush, biodiverse ecosystem.
During my time at the station, I participated in vital research projects that contribute to the preservation of endangered species and the understanding of rainforest dynamics. The hands-on experience was both challenging and rewarding, from tracking elusive wildlife to assisting with data collection and habitat monitoring.
The dedicated team of researchers and staff at Agumbe are incredibly passionate about their work, and their commitment to conservation is truly inspiring. They provided thorough training and support, making it possible for volunteers like me to contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects.
Living and working in the rainforest itself was an adventure in its own right. The natural beauty and serene environment were matched by the camaraderie among volunteers and researchers, creating a supportive and collaborative atmosphere.
Overall, my time at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station was transformative. It deepened my understanding of ecological issues and fostered a profound appreciation for the complexity of wildlife! I left with valuable skills, lasting memories, and a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship.

“Thank you ARRS for giving me a truly special experience in the wild. We had so many interesting animal encounters such as finding birds in the night like the oriental scops owl and the oriental dwarf kingfisher and even primates such as the elusive slender loris. I was also lucky enough to see 5 species of snakes including the king cobra during a rescue mission. The whole team was amazing and taught me a lot about the unique species of this biodiversity hotspot on our many birding and herping walks. The ethics they have for nature really surprised me. When we weren't looking for animals, we enjoyed the beautiful waterfalls around with the other guests. I'm sure that I will return very soon.” Show More
